Here’s an SEO tip: Forget about search engines!

Written by Kenneth on August 15, 2012

What kind of sorcery is this? Forget about the search engines?!

You sir, must be out of your mind!

Now now, don’t act surprised. I know you already knew about this. I know everywhere you read, from articles from SEO gurus to Forums filled with trolls, spammers and bullshitters, that you should write and design your website for the people, the actual readers of your blog, and not for the search engines.

Quite frankly, this has always been the secret in building a successful blog. Take a look at the websites of successful guys like John Chow or Shoemoney , they clearly don’t care about the search engines, they don’t give a shit about their keyword ratio or whatever that BS number of outbound links you should have on your site, they only care about their content, their posts, their articles, and they are clearly written for the readers and not for some soulless spider crawling their pages.

And this is what you should focus on, create a website for the people and not for search engines. Write articles that people would actually want to read and not for search engines to crawl so you can rank for some keyword. Just imagine back in time when search engines didn’t exist and websites gets readers and followers because the website has great articles and not because Google pointed them to that site. Do it for your passion in writing, for your growth as a blogger, and not as a slave of search engines.

Here are a few additional tips to make your site more user friendly:

1. Make your website easy on the eyes – Duh! Reading your articles should be a breeze and a good experience for the readers, do not clutter your site with ads, do not mind about the keyword density. Do you know about this website The best page in the Universe by Maddox? Notice the blandness of the site? But it sure is damn easy to read! Although, I’m pretty sure you can do better in the layout and design department than that website but you get what I’m trying to tell you right?

2. Make it easy to navigate in your website - You wanna make people to read a lot of your articles right? So you should also consider the layout of your site, make it easy to navigate, don’t make navigating on your site a chore, do not confuse your readers or else they will just move away.

3. Write your articles as though Google doesn’t exist – Yes, really, c’mon now, unless the article is about them or you are writing a letter directed to the folks at Google, why should you consider some silly search engine spider on your post? You should only focus on your readers!

And there you have it, if you disagree with me feel free leave a comment and I will get right back at ya.

Very true, especially with the new Google updates where “naturalness” is more important now.

This is a topic that’s close to my heart… Best wishes! Where are your contact details though?

This is a message to the website owner. I just came to your website (which is great by the way), and wanted to let you know that it’s loading very slowly. I thought it was my internet connection at first but then I realized it was your website. A quick recommendation, I’ve been using http://www.fusionhost.com for WordPress hosting. They have really fast servers which are optimized for WordPress. They also have Softaculous, which allows you to install WordPress with just a single click of the mouse which I thought would be useful to you ;-) Take care!
